March 19, 2020
Solemnity of Saint Joseph, Husband of Blessed Virgin Mary
Reach Up, Reach Out

In these challenging times we come face-to-face with human frailty. We take for granted our comfortable standard of living, assume anything we want will be on hand at the grocery store, gasoline always available for the car, the Holy Eucharist always offered at Mass. Adversity is no fun, but it can bring out the best in us: our dependence on one another as brothers and sisters in the human family; the ability of human kindness to overcome fear, our ultimate dependence on God and need to trust in Divine Mercy. Even though normal public Masses throughout the Diocese are suspended, we need not be isolated from Our Lord’s True Presence. We will keep all three churches unlocked during the day to enable private prayer with Jesus, always with us in the Tabernacle. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will continue per normal schedule; First Fridays at St Agnes 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Wednesdays at either St Rose or St Paul of the Cross alternating each week:

  • Wednesday March 25, April 8, April 22, etc. 4:30-6:00 PM, St Rose of Lima
  • Wednesday April 1, April 15, April 29, etc.  9:30-11:00 AM, St Paul of the Cross

Our parish website and Facebook Page have links to the various options for you to participate in Mass by viewing it on TV or livestream. The Act of Spiritual Communion (below) can be said instead of receiving Holy Communion. We will honor all Mass intentions scheduled for our three parishes in my private celebration of daily Mass. Even though we are currently unable to worship in community, we have unprecedented opportunity to reach out in compassion to any of our neighbors who might benefit from our assistance. Running errands for homebound person can be a Godsend. A phone call to someone who is alone, anxious or sorrowful can provide welcome consolation or advice. By serving others in need, we serve Christ Himself, “whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)

Clearly, our individual relationships with God stand to grow profoundly during this time of seclusion. “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:11) is sound advice today as it was 2600 years ago. There is no time like the present to read the Bible. The Psalms are the very prayers that Jesus prayed. Reading one of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John) in its entirety can be a life changing experience. Go slow, just a few profound verses, one parable or significant event at a time. Savor it.

Listen less to the news, and more to God. One causes stress, the other relieves it.

Be assured of my prayers for you and your loved ones as I ask for your continued prayers.

God’s Rich Blessings,

Father Michael G. Fowler

Prayer for Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things and I desire to receive You in my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if you were already there
and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.  Amen.

Our Mission Statement
